Recent surveys have found that teenagers and college students rank among the highest percentage of people who partake in online games that involve gambling. While there are those who do play only for fun, there are also gamers who become addicted to online gambling and can get into serious trouble.

Going with the crowd

When questioned as to why they participate in online gambling, most adolescents and young adults will tell you that they get into playing online games because their friends and fellow classmates are doing so. It is a well-known fact that this particular age range of people tend to fall party to the pressure of their peers to be involved in similar activities so that they can fit in. They find that online gambling gives them common ground for conversations in which they can compare or even brag about their skills and gaming site standings. They find it easier to be a part of a particular group of other students and may be seen as being cool for taking part in online gambling. One of these sites is Gaming Club Canada.

Loving the Thrill of Risks

It is a well-known fact that teenagers and college age young adults from the US to Australia like to take risks. They like to find things to do that give them a thrill or adrenaline rush. To a generation that has been raised on online games, participating in online gambling is just a seemingly logical next step. They have money or a credit card and just become caught up in the excitement of placing a bet, rolling the virtual dice or turning a card and seeing if they win or not. They seldom stop to think of the real life consequences that can occur from “just one more bet”.

Whether adolescents and college students participate in online games for social acceptance or for the thrill and rush in seeing how big they can win, it is a given fact that this age group is definitely very vulnerable to the pitfalls of online gambling.

Let me start by saying that the number one rule of bluffing at poker is to avoid doing it with every hand. Since the function of the bluff is to disguise your behavior, it is not recommendable that you bluff just for the sake of bluffing. If you will fake it with each hand, you will not only manage to annoy the other players, but you will also lose a lot of money at a very fast pace. In order to decide about the best moment to start pretending, take a look at what is on the table and at the cards that you are holding in your hands.

At the same time, before actually bluffing, consider the cards of your opponents. For instance, if there are three cards from the same suit on the table, then it is very likely that your opponents will try to get an open ended flush as well. In case the highest card you hold in your hand is not a figurine, then there are actually extremely few chances that the flush will get you a winning hand. On the other hand, if the cards on the table are completely different and the other players seem confused, then the odds can be in your favor.

If you want your bluff to work and go unnoticed, then you should play consistently. The consistency in a poker game means that you should never be too happy or too sad. In addition, if you are aware of an automatic behavior that you cannot really control, then introduce it each time you look at your cards or when you are betting. This way you can be sure that the others will not have a so called “tell” to help them identify the possible cards you hold in your hands.

If you do not want the other to know that you are bluffing, then you must keep your cards to yourself. Even though the rules are different from house to house, in general you are allowed to choose whether you want to show your cards or not after the round is complete. Basically, the idea of a bluff is that you convinced the others that you have such a good hand that they all folded their cards. Consequentially, you must do anything in your power to avoid being called out, as then you will be forced to show your cards and the others will know that you were bluffing and change their gaming strategies.

However, if you get caught, have a story ready in which you try to mask that you were actually bluffing. For instance, if you do not have anything but a few random cards from the same suit, you can tell the other players that you were actually going for an open ended straight and you made a mistake. As you can see, you will need to come up with something credible based on the cards in your hand and the ones on the table. These are the basic things you should know about bluffing but just remember, you will need a bit of practice before you can master this ultimate trick in poker.

Poker is the favorite game of many and the advent of online casinos and poker playrooms have made it possible for those, who did not have access to land-based casinos, to play their favorite game from their homes. However, online poker is a bit different from land-based games and therefore, the strategies employed to play the online format of the game too are slightly different. Strategies can be simple or complex. Depending upon the player’s capability and skill, he uses strategies accordingly.

Here is a description of these strategies:
1. Do not bluff opponents with lesser hands: if a player has the tendency to call most bets, do not bluff on him, as he might be a bad player, thereby calling most of the times. If you bluff him, he might think that you might not be having the hand that you are pretending to hold and he can get lucky. He could win because of his loose play; therefore, it is not sensible to bluff a lesser opponent.

2. Don’t expect to win all hands each time in head’s up play: head’s up play means to finish the opponent slowly and steadily. You do not want all his chips at one go, but try to get them slowly. Expecting to win each hand can be dangerous. It is all right if you win the important hands. If there are unbeatable cards in your hand, you should put in small bets to be in the calling range and still be winning the maximum amount on the cards.

3. Drop the marginal hands: do not be tempted by marginal hands as this could only lead you to losing. Although it can be frustrating to see marginal hands each time, but it is better to heap them in the trash than playing them.

4. Take your time: you should not be intimidated by the speed of the internet or the other players. You can take your time and ignore the bells and beeps of the poker site, which urge you to hurry things. Since you have a certain time allotted to you, you may use it to take an informed decision rather than taking a wrong decision because of hurry.

5. Play when you are at ease: poker is a game, which is not driven by emotions. Therefore, one should play only when he has the willingness to do so. There would always be games available online but that does not mean that one has to play them each time. Instead, it is better to play them when one is feeling the best and wants to play.

6. Change your betting pattern: in an online game of poker, a player’s betting pattern can be easily judged and this could be detrimental in one’s winnings. If a player follows the same betting pattern each time, it is likely that the opponents guess the hand and make their moves accordingly. Instead, it is better to mix your moves and change the betting pattern constantly to keep the opponents guessing.

What is a Blocking Bet? A blocking bet is usually used when you play online poker, or live poker as well, when a player believes that he may have the best hand once the river card has been flipped. However, if he is not entirely sure of his hand, he would place a blocking bet. Blocking bets are usually made against a single opponent, as they are less effective when multiple opponents have bets on the table. Blocking bets are only effective when they are used before the opponent makes a bet. By placing a blocking bet, a player can negate the positional advantage that the opponent holds by placing second. When a blocking bet is made, there are only three things that an opponent can do:

Call with a better hand. Though this gives the advantage to the blocker, as it causes opponents to place a higher price than he or she would have.

Call with an equal or weaker hand. This way, the opponent must place a bet higher than he or she normally would have, and it allows the blocker to avoid difficult decisions.

Fold. This allows the blocker to know that he was right as it pins the opponent down and makes him reveal his position. This prevents opponents from playing a bluff on the river and possibly out-maneuvering the potential blocker.

How can I use a Blocking Bet to save my money? Blocking bets can help save you money in any game of Texas Hold em as it allows players that suspect they have the advantage on the river to force their opponents into showing the strength of their hand. In doing this, the player can almost always determine where his opponent stands before the river is turned. It also ensures that any bluffing that the opponent does will be transparent and ultimately ineffective.

Blocking bets do exactly what they sound like: they block, or protect players in an online poker tournament from being taken out during the river. They can not only call bluffs without directly doing so, but they can also make it a sure thing that the player that is blocking knows the precise power of his or her hand against the opponents. Blocking bets can prevent players from making poor decisions after the river is turned because they can know exactly how the opponent will play. This means that the player will not make needless bets or overzealous bets on what he or she may believe the opponents hand to be.

Online gambling is not just a convenient way for traditional gamblers to play their favorite casino games from the comfort of their own home; it also gives beginners the chance to get the exciting casino experience in a safe and private environment. This is why there are literally hundreds of online casinos and poker rooms on the internet for players to choose from, but when looking for the right one, players not simply pick the one with the biggest promotions; they should look for casinos with the best reputations.

The first rule when picking out an online casino is to examine its integrity, meaning fair payout percentages and professional software. In many countries, the minimum payout percentage is about 80%, but many online casinos now offer payouts of up to 95%, so don’t settle for gambling at a casino that only offers you the minimum.

A reliable online casino will also ensure that its software has been designed by a reputable software developer who ensures their games offer each player a fair chance at winning. Some of the most trusted brands include Microgaming, Playtech, Cryptologic and RTG, as these companies ensure that results of their games are completely randomized and that their payout percentages cannot be altered by an online casino in any way. Many of the best online casinos will have a third-party auditor examine their practices to ensure that their players are getting a fair chance. Reports from the auditing firms are often posted on the website.

Another thing to consider when picking an online casino is its bonuses, a promotional tool that is not available anywhere else in the gambling world. Land-based casinos would never give its customers free money just for telling a friend about a certain table or for simply signing up. Online casinos and poker rooms offer players the chance to earn bonus cash or credits, offering up to $1000 for registering and up to $1000 for depositing money. Casino bonuses are a great benefit to gambling online, and players should certainly take advantage of them.

It is even easier to get carried away at an online casino than it is at one that’s land-based, so one thing that players forget to do is set limits for themselves. Before you begin playing, make sure that you’ve budgeted how much time and money you can afford to spend playing at an online casino. Whenever you win, set aside half of your winnings so you can continue playing and put the rest back into your account. Also, make sure to time yourself and only play for an hour or two, because you don’t want to spend the whole night online.

The best online casino experience is guaranteed when a player is knowledgeable about the casino of their choice, so take your time and do some research before you play. There are a number of casino review websites and online gambling message boards where you can ask questions and find out about any online casino.

Texas Hold’em is the most popular game of poker played online or in casinos today. Whether playing online or in live play, it takes patience, determination, and a little luck to cash out with money in a tournament. In this article, we will explore the different strategies that work best for playing Texas Hold’em online.

Playing poker online is an efficient way to make money. You can log on and play anytime or anywhere you like and with a whole lot of sites now offering free poker games; its become much easier to refine your skills before you put your money in. There is always a poker tournament online, 24 hours a day. With online tournament play, there are no travel or food expenses, and the rake is low in most tournaments, making it profitable for the player. The rake is usually quite a bit lower in tournaments, than ring game play. The first strategy to be able to beat the best in online poker tournaments, is that there are tells, even in online play. A tell is something that reveals the strength of the hand being held.

There are many tells but the first one that is important to mention, is the stall technique. Sometimes, players will stall for a bit before they make their next bet, this can be an important tell. If someone keeps stalling when it is their turn to bet, it can mean that they didn’t make their hand on the river, and are trying to decide what to bet, to make it seem credible. The key is to pay attention to the way people bet, and watch the hands they show down. Learn your odds; know the probability of the hands that can beat you. Sometimes, you just have to go with your gut, it’s what makes poker fun, it is a game of uncertainty.

The internet is full of players that are super aggressive, perhaps from watching TV poker, and some players just don’t know how to bet. Players will, at times, just keep betting, sometimes with nothing, in hopes you will fold. It is easy to turn their own aggression against them, by checking down the best hand. By checking your nut flush, or full house, you give him the option to hang himself, and most of the time; these types of players will do just that. They think they smell weakness, when in reality, they were beat from the flop. These types of players usually weed themselves out fairly quickly in tournament play, moving you one step closer to the final table.

But looking at the stronghold amateurs currently have in poker, I think it’s safe to say the plan has backfired. Amateurs and unsung, small scale pros rule the scene.

Thinking about becoming a poker pro? Well, start with the basics first. One of the most important things you can ever learn about poker—mainly Texas Hold’em—is how to survive in the big tournaments. Luckily for you, most sites have on the job training to take advantage of in the form of freerolls.

Freerolls have been called the roulette wheel of the poker world. Since the game is free to enter, hence the name, a lot of gunslingers enter into the tournaments, throwing around their chips loosely, hoping to get ahead and play big-stack poker. For most, they donk off chips and credibility; however, they usually take a few good players out in the process.

Freerolls, at least in the early stages, aren’t about winning so much as they’re about surviving. If you can outlast the riff raff, you may be in prime position for a money finish. What are the advantages of winning or placing high in a freeroll? Well, it’s all reward with no risk. If you’ve been looking for a starting stack, a freeroll win will pad your account with some chips. Then you can really start to play.

When the freeroll starts, fold and stay out of the way unless you have one of the four horsemen hands (AA, KK, QQ, JJ). You need to see who’s doing what here. I know: folding might not be in your repertoire. But don’t view it as being scared or apprehensive. Think of it as doing research. By seeing who’s gunning for chips and who’s trying to actually play poker, you’ll be ready after the blinds level up.

Dip your toes into the action. The blinds are still relatively low and you’ve already got an idea of who the maniacs are, if they’re still around. Get in there with some suited connectors, anything with a face in good position, and see if you can’t rob a few pots on good faith. Throw around some feelers and get comfortable playing. After all, the levels are coming quick, and you need to be ready to make a move.

After keeping things quiet and calm in your neck of the woods, pounce on a good hand. Here’s where all the chips are on the line, literally. You’ll need to double up to stand a chance. If you can’t set a trap, get your money in pre-flop with a good pocket. In a freeroll atmosphere, some Joe is always going to call with an 8 5 suited clubs!

Keep your play focused and intense but don’t go overboard with it. You want to be in charge but you don’t want to push aggressive. The idea here is to survive. Once the earlier rounds are over, you’ll be left with only two types of opponent: Actual players and chip donkeys that’ve yet to bust. You’ll know the difference and you’ll know how to handle them.

Once you’re in the money—assuming you struck gold in the timeframe you needed—pounce on the competition and push for the front of the pack. You can’t do any worse than free money at this point.

Is Blackjack or poker the most popular card game in the world? These days it’s hard to tell. It used to be Blackjack but with the huge boost from the televised World Series of Poker, other big marketing campaigns and online poker rooms popping up all over the net, the game of Texas Hold’em poker has climbed the ranks quite a bit over the last few years.

But what makes it such a popular and timeless game is the challenge and skill involved, both at a land based casino or an online casino. It’s not just a game of chance where you have little hope of winning. Instead, in poker it’s all about reading the player, calculating your odds and timing your bets. In poker, learning to read the players across from you is equally as important as knowing what possible cards are left in the deck. But at online casinos, this becomes pretty difficult, so then what else makes poker such a great game to play?

It could possibly be the excitement. In poker, you’re not playing against the house or the dealer, instead you’re playing against other players and you can match your skill level up against theirs. Therefore when playing poker, you can have as good or bad a chance of winning, it all depends on how smart the other players are and how smart you are!

Playing Texas Hold’em is also a great game because you always have the opportunity to become a better poker player. Instead of playing casino games like Slots that are purely based on luck, poker lets you learn your strengths and weaknesses and you can always improve on them because you are always playing against different players, with different hands.

So while playing Texas Hold’em might seem daunting at first, the excitement, the chance to test your skill and the challenge to always become a better player make it one of the greatest card games to play!
